Raně středověké hradiště v Libušíně (okr. Kladno, střední Čechy) je významnou archeologickou lokalitou z několika důvodů. Předně kvůli jeho poloze v jádru Čech - na území, které je spjato s počátky přemyslovské vlády, a tudíž i s počátky českého státu, dále díky plošnému výzkumu, který ho zařadil do skupiny nejlépe prozkoumaných raně středověkých hradišť v Čechách, a také svým opevněním kombinujícím důmyslně několik konstrukčních typů hradeb. V tomto článku je podán nový výklad klíčových nálezových situací a souborů artefaktů, odlišující se od dřívějších závěrů publikovaných na počátku 70. let 20. století. Hradiště nevzniklo na přelomu 9. a 10. stol., ale nejdříve ve druhé, popř. ve třetí třetině 10. století. To pochopitelně vyvolává úvahy o jeho funkci a o historickém významu.

The early medieval stronghold in Libušín (district of Kladno, Central Bohemia) is an important archaeological site for a number of reasons, foremost of which is the stronghold's position in the centre of Bohemia - a territory that is connected with the beginnings of the Přemyslid reign and therefore the origins of the Czech state. Large-scale excavations have also made Libušín one of the best investigated early medieval strongholds in Bohemia. Furthermore, Libušín is remarkable for the ingenious combination of several types of walls in the stronghold's fortifications. As such, the site has traditionally attracted a great deal of professional interest. This article offers a new interpretation of key find situations and assemblages of artefacts, one that differs from earlier conclusions published at the beginning of the 1970s. Among other things, the author attempts to show that the stronghold in Libušín was not built at the turn of the 10th century as previously believed, but probably during the second third of the 10th century, at the earliest. This dating naturally raises new questions about the stronghold's function and, hence, its historical importance.
