We have developed a new method for quantitative determination of myosin heavy chain (MyHC) isoforms taking advantage of immunocytochemical differences, based on ELISA principle. We compared compared it with the SDS-PAGE method at the same sample of adult female inbred Lewis strain euthyroid, hyperthyroid and hypothyroid rats. Our results showed that ELISA can be used for a “semi-quantitative” or a “comparative” measurement of MyHC isoforms in multiple muscle samples, but that it is not more exact or faster compared to the SDS-PAGE
