Jak fenomenologie, tak analytická filosofie odmítají karteziánský dualismus ohledně vztahu mezi osobou a tělem. Analytičtí filosofové obvykle volí tu či onu materialistickou alternativu, ale toto řešení napadl například Kripke. Avšak není třeba, abychom se vrátili k dualismu, neboť sám Kripke naznačuje vztah mezi osobou a tělem, který by byl jiný, než rozdíl či identita – vztah konstituce.

Both phenomenology and analytic philosophy challenge Cartesian dualism with respect to the relation between person and the body. Analytic philosophers usually opt for one or another materialist alternative, but this solution has been challenged, in particular by Kripke. However, we do not need to return to dualism, since Kripke himself indicates another relation between person and the body in addition to those of difference and identity – constitution.
