Kosíkova kniha se neinspiruje pouze koncepcemi Hegela a Marxe,ale specifickým způsobem integruje podněty strukturalismu,fenomenologie a Heideggerovy "filosofie bytí".Tyto typy myšlení jsou podle Kosíka komparativní s principy dialektického a historického materialismu,pokud je tento interpretován v nedogmatickém smyslu a preferuje problematiku člověka.
