Periodical, but heavy water blooms of cyanobacteria appeared in resent years in volcanic oligotrophic lake Atitlan in Guatemala. In this water bloom participated almost monoculture of Lyngbya robusta. It was the first case, when this species formed water blooms in such a degree. This occurrence id very important, because the lake Atitlan is one from the most important lakes in Central America. In the article are the first introductory studies about periodicity, toxicity and ecological parameters of Lyngbya robusta, and is the intoductory study for further research.
