The study draws attention to the written source that was neglected up to date and which gives evidence of the origin of the iconography of Visitation of St Elizabeth to the Virgin Mary after the birth of Christ and John the Baptist. The source was preserved in the Vatican collection of Jenstejn´s works. The painting was directly based on a vision of the Prague Archbishop, who commissioned several paintings of this miraculum for the chapel of his palace and several other places.
