    The paper deals with a newly designed geometry of the Hydrodynamic Vortex Separator (HDVS), which consisted of a vertical cylindrical geometry with a tangential free surface inflow, conical bottom section, overflow facility and continuous underflow from the chamber bottom. Both Hydraulic Physical Modelling (HPM) and numerical modelling using CFD software ANSYS FLUENT were used to describe hydrodynamic characteristics as well as particle separation efficiencies.
