A new vortex-identification method has been recently proposed, named as Triple Decomposition Method (TDM). By decomposing the local motion of a fluid into straining, shearing and rigid-body rotation, it particularly allows to eliminate the biasing effect of shear. The paper presents an application of TDM to numerical flow data, both in two and three dimensions.
