    The demands on the level of functional mathematical literacy and consequently also the need of professionalization of teachers' work are permanently growing. That is why it is essential to look for ways to develop and refine the teachers' professional competences that would enable them to support the development of mathematical literacy and culture in their pupils and students. The paper focuses on problem posing as such a way. It describes the preliminary findings of on-going research.
