Ženy jsou v Indii činné v literatuře od počátku 20. století, ale od 60. let jejich počet a aktivita vzrostly. Jejich tvorba je různorodá, v 60.-70. letech se hlásily k různým literárním proudům i hnutím, v nedávných desetiletích nastala výrazná individualizace. Většinou píší o městských středních vrstvách, nejvíc pozornosti věnují rodině ve společenském kontextu. Nehlásí se k žádnému proudu feminismu ani se nedělí na pravicové a levicové. Pouze brojí proti zkostnatělým tradicím, které v neorganickém spojení s požadavky tržního hospodářství nejvíce doléhají na ženu.

Women have been active in literature in India from the beginning of the 20th century, but since the 1960s their numbers and activities increased. Their creation is differentiated, in the 1960s - 1970s they participated in various literary trends and movements. In recent decades , marked individualization has taken place. They write mostly about urban middle class and give most attention to family in the context of society. They do not espouse any trend of feminism, nor are they divided into rightist and leftist. Striking is the lack of interest in politics. They only stand up against petrified traditions, which in inorganic combination with the demands of the market economy are the heaviest burden for women.
