Ačkoliv byly dosud v Evropě objeveny tisíce depotů kovových artefaktů, základní otázka jejich funkce a významu zůstává nevyřešena. I když existuje široká paleta interpretací, každá z nich je obhájitelná přirozeně pouze pro určitou skupinu případů. Čechy jsou jednou z mála oblastí, kde byla většina existujících nálezů souhrnně publikována. Článek se pokouší prezentovat některé nové informace získané na základě počtu, polohy a skladby českých depotů, což by se mohlo ukázat užitečným při hledání nových odpovědí.

Though thousands of deposits of metal artefacts have been found thus far in Europe, the basic question of their function and meaning remains unsolved. While a wide range of interpretations exists, each of these is naturally only tenable for certain group of cases. Bohemia is one of the few territories where the majority of existing finds have been collectively published. The article attempts to present some of the new information obtained on the basis of the number, location and composition of Czech deposits, as this could prove to be useful in the search for new answers.
