Hindi writer Nirmal Varma spent almost 10 years in Prague. He translated a number of Czech books into Hindi. He loved Prague, Prague is the scene of action of his novel Those days and of many of his short stories. The novel Those days can, in a way, be called regional novel. When Czechoslovakia was attacked by Russian and other armies, Nirmal Varma took up the Czech cause and wrote a number of stories and articles on this topic. As punishment for these activities, all ways to Czechoslovakia were closed for him up to 1989.
