The paper deals with the comparison of the theory of possibles and the so-called eternal truths in Francisco Suárez and René Descartes. The interpretation of Suárez's doctrine (embraced by Timothy Cronin) saying that possibles have a sort of diminished being independent of God is refused. On the basis of textual analysis the author shows the given exposition, unambiguously refused by Descartes, cannot be attributed to Suárez.
