Popper's original contribution to philosophy consists in his model of negative reason, unifying two philosophical themes – the Enlightenment respect for reason but discarding its element of arrogance, based on the link between justification and truth. This model of rationality thus presents an alternative to the postmodern subversion of reason as the constitutive value of Western culture.
