An overview of the Classical Nucleation Theory (CNT) applied to nucleation in cavitation processes is given. The theory is presented in a general, multi-component form and is applied to cavitation processes in water and aqueous mixtures. The the- ory accounts for several important parameters of the cavitating system, e.g. surface tension, heterogeneous contact angle, con- centration of dissolved gases. Three applications are discussed, cavitation erosion in hydrodynamic machinery, bubble forma- tion in carbonated beverages, and the possibility of cavitation in cerebrospinal fluid.
