Platinum complexes LA-12 and cisplatin enhanced TRAIL-induced apoptosis in colon and prostate cancer cells. They increased surface expression of DR5 receptor for TRAIL, which has been shown to be crucial for induction of apoptosis. Moreover, LA-12 and cisplatin mediated translocation of TRAIL receptors DR4 and DR5 to lipid rafts and enhanced internalization of TRAIL. These events modulated early steps of TRAIL, signaling and may contribute to induction of apoptosis.
