Synthetic phenylcoumarin derivatives HHC (7-hydroxy-3-(4'-hydroxyphenyl) coumarin) and HHDC (7-hydroxy-3-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-3,4-dihydrocoumarin) can affect ROS generation in human neutrophils and NO production by RAW 264.7 macrophages. The obtained results highlighted the different effects of HHC and HHDC on fagocyte functions, which might be due to their diverse free radical scavenging properties and lipophilicity features.
