Kontextově motivovaný rozbor synchronní polysémní struktury gramatického slova jestli v konverzační češtině slouží jako empirický základ ke studiu širších otázek spojených s variabilitou, změnami a genezí gramatických struktur. Příspěvek ukazuje, že diachronní posuny v gramatické stavbě lze uspokojivě rekonstruovat jen na základě konkrétních mluvních aktů, v nichž musíme hledat počáteční stadia postupných změn.

A contextually motivated analysis of a synchronically polysemous structure associated with the word jestli in conversational Czech serves as an empirical basis for addressing broader questions concerning variability and change, including the emergence of grammatical structure. The paper argues that grammatical change can be properly reconstructed only through the study of concrete speech events, in which we can detect the initial stages of subsequent changes.
