Článek seznamuje čtenáře s polovinou Nobelovy ceny za fyziku udělenou v r. 2009 prof. Ch.K. Kaovi za průkopnické práce, které vedly k optickému sdělování po dielektrických vláknech. Kromě výzkumné práce laureáta je velká část článku věnována vědeckému zdůvodnění udělení ceny.
The article acquaints readers with one half of the Nobel Prize in Physics awarded to Prof. C.K. Kao for 2009 for pioneer work, which led to the optical communication with dielectric fibres. Beside of the research work of Prize winner the larger part of the article is devoted to the scientific background of awarding.
