The paper deals with spatial distribution of heavy rain events with respect to orography in the Czech Republic. Based data used in the study were derived from radar reflectivity of 2 Czech weather radars (Skalky, Brdy) and were merged with rain gauge measurements. Using a different definition of convective rainfalls in comparison with other studies (e.g. Sokol and Bliznak, 2009), heavy rain totals correlated with altitude and terrain roughness globally over the Czech Republic. The correlation of heavy rain intensities with altitude was not proven but the spatial distribution of heavy rain frequencies strongly corresponded to the spatial distribution of heavy rain totals.
