Masiv Strážného (Finsterau) je součástí šumavské větve moldanubického batolitu. Masiv je tvořený biotitickými granity až granodiority typu Weinsberg a dvojslídnými granity typu Eisgarn. Z chemického složení granitoidů tohoto masivu vyplývá, že granitové magma vzniklo parciálním tavením heterogenní moldanubické kůry.

The Strážný (Finsterau) granitoid body form part of the Šumava Mts. branch of the Moldanubian batholith. Within this granitoid body biotite granites to granodiorites of the Weinsberg type and two-mica granites of the Eisgarn type occur. Chemical composition of all these granitoids implies magma generation by partial melting of heterogeneous Moldanubian crust.
