Measurements of stem respiration were conducted for a period of four years (1999-2002) in 14-year old Norway spruce (Picea abies [L.] Karst) trees exposed to ambient (CA) and elevated CO2 concentration (CE; ambient plus 350 mu mol mol(-1)).Stem respiration in CE treatment was higher (up to 16 %) than in CA treatment. Seasonal variations in stem respiration were related to temperature and tree growth.
