Kniha přináší latinské texty a české překlady tří legend obsažených v tzv. Wolfenbüttelském rukopisu. Vyprávění o životě a úkladném zabití knížete Václava z pera mantovského biskupa Gumpolda je nejstarší dochovanou latinskou literární památkou, která má přímý vztah k českým dějinám. Spolu s ní jsou v rukopise zapsány legendy o sv. Pantaleonovi a sv. Egidiovi, které nebyly dosud předmětem zájmu. Jejich vydání v předkládané edici poprvé zohledňuje kontext dochování Gumpoldovy legendy.

The book presents Latin texts and Czech translations of three legends contained in the so-called Wolfenbüttel Manuscript. The story of life and malicious murder of prince Wenceslas written by Gumpold, bishop od Mantua, is the oldest literary account relating immediately to Czech history. Along with this text there are two more legends recorded in the same codex but hitertho neglected in the scholarship: the life of St Pantaleon and the life of St Gilles. Their present edition is the first to take into consideration the codicological context of Gumpold's legend.
