Dissociation of CH3I and CF3I in RF discharge for use in oxygen-iodine lasers was studied experimentally. A discharge chamber was placed directly inside an iodine injector and produced I atoms were injected to the supersonic cavity. A dissociation fraction up to 20% was achieved at RF power up to 250 W and flow rates of iodide up to 1 mmol/s. The discharge efficiency was up to 11%. The modeling calculations showed that the dissociation fraction in the discharge could be higher than evaluated in the detection cavity due to the recombination of I atoms and/or presence of excited iodine atoms. The number density up to 2.5 x 1014 cm-3 of I atoms was measured in the supersonic flow.
