První velkou zakázkou po svém návratu do Prahy získal Škréta v klášteře bosých augustiniánů na Zderaze. Svatováclavský cyklus sestával z třicetidvou obrazů, ne všechny ale byly od Škréty. Ke komponování scény využil Škréta nejen raně renesanční vizuální vzory, ale také grafiky Ovidiových Metamorfóz, jak je ztvárnil Antonio Tempesta.

The first large commission of Karel Škréta after his return to Prague was a collection of paintings in the cloister of the Monastery of Discalced Augustinians at Zderaz. St. Wenceslas Cycle consists of thirty-two pictures; not all of the canvases, however, were done by Škréta. Only eight paintings survived until present days. Composing the scenes, Škréta used not only early renaissance sources, but also engravings from Ovid's Metamorphosis designed by Antonio Tempesta.
