Vzhledem k tomu, že neexistují doklady specifikující Škrétova učednická léta, lze pouze předpokládat, že se musela odehrát v okruhu pražského rudolfínského dvora. Bohatá a sociálně dobře situovaná rodina se starala o synovo vzdělání a obrátila se nejspíše na někoho, kdo byl nejen virtuozní umělec, ale i pravý pictor doctus, jako Aegidius Sadeler. Škrétův strýc Daniel byl přítelem Jacoba Hoefnagela, syna miniaturisty Jorise. Dionisio Miseroni (ca. 1600–1661) je pak hlavním nositelem kontinuity umění rudolfínského dvora. V době návratu Škréty z Itálie již Miseroni působil jako správce hradní obrazárny a umělci zprostředkova několik zakázek.

As there are no written records of Karel Škréta's artistic training it can only be assumed that it must have taken place within the Prague Castle’s circle of artists. The wealthy and socially well-established Škréta's family clearly cared about its son’s education, so in all likelihood it turned to someone who was not only a virtuosic artist, but also a true pictor doctus, like Aegidius Sadeler. Škréta’s uncle Daniel was a friend of Jacob Hoefnagel, the son of the miniaturist Joris. In particular, Dionysius Miseroni (ca. 1600–1661) represented continuity with the arts of Rudolf’s court. At the time of Škréta's return to Bohemia, this successor to the family tradition of royal gem-cutters even administered the Prague Castle’s art collections and later he organized several artistic commissions.
