The constant-deflection-rate mode of the small punch test can be used to estimate the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT), the fracture toughness or other various ductility-related properties. Small punch tests were performed at the deflection rate of 0.006 mm/s at temperatures ranging from 20 to 800 °C. Three main quantities were determined: 1. maximum load, 2. deflection corresponding to this maximum and 3. fracture energy obtained by integrating the load–deflection curve. Reasonable agreement was obtained when the estimated DBTTs were compared with the previously reported dependence of transition temperature on the aluminum content.
