To get more effective ABE removal we prepared the IL-PDMS membrane. This membrane showed high stability and also selectivity during all measurements. We were able to remove more butan-1-ol and acetone than the C. acetobutylicum was able to produce. To prove the effectiveness of our set up we ran the fermentation reaction on the limiting values of butan-1-ol concentration (18g/L) to see, if under these conditions the bacteria could still be alive. We proved experimentally that this concentration was already deadly for the bacteria. If we would run pervaporation with continuous removal of butan-1-ol, C. acetobutylicum would survive and could produce even more BIObutanol.
