Kniha se zabývá akkadskými (babylónsko-asyrskými) a dvojjazyčnými (sumersko-akkadskými) mýty a legendami, které byly tradovány v oblasti starověkého Předního východu v období 2. a 1. tisíciletí př. n.l. Integrální překlady jsou doprovázeny podrobnými úvody a doplněny poznámkami věcné i bibliografické povahy, seznamem citované literatury a pramenů a výkladovým slovníkem vlastních jmen. Svou šíří přeložených a komentovaných textů je tato kniha ojedinělá i v kontextu světové odborné literatury.

The book deals with the Akkadian (Babylonian and Assyrian) and bilingual (Sumerian and Akkadian) myths and legends handed down in the region of the ancient Near East during the period of 2nd and 1st millennia B.C. Their integral translations are accompanied by detailed introductions and supplemented by factual and bibliographical notes, list of quoted literary sources and secondary works as well as explanatory dictionary of proper names. This book is for its scope of translated and commented texts unique even in the context of world scholarly literature.
