Úřad moravského zemského hejtmana hrál od 15. století důležitou roli ve správním a soudním systému země. Působnost a pravomoci zemského hejtmana shrnuje spis Karla staršího ze Žerotína De iure nostro asi z roku 1607: zástupce krále, kompetence v soudnictví, správa sirotčích statků, vojenské pravomoci.

The office of Moravian land captain had an important role in the administrative and judicial system of the country since 15th century. Authorities and jurisdiction of land captain resumes the work of Charles Elder of Žerotín De iure nostro from about 1607: a representative of king, authority in judicial system, orphan trusteeship, military authorities.
