Stresses in hollow nanoparticles are controlled by an eigenstrain state and a surface stress state, acting at the inner and outer surface and the interface between the phases, both yielding stress components of the same order of magnitude. Easy to handle expressions for stress and energy terms are presented for hollow nanospheres consisting of a core shell and a mantle shell of different elastic properties.
