Ethanol belongs to the group of agents that significantly affect the function of cardiac myocytes. The results of performed experiments showed that ethanol reversibly decelerates the upstroke velocity of action potential and decreases its amplitude and duration. Further exploration of the effect of ethanol on membrane ionic currents showed, that ethanol efficiently suppresses INa, ICa and Ito with 50% inhibition at 446 mM, 553 mM a 1954 mM, respectively.
