Sperm maturation taking place during the transit of spermatozoa through the epididymis represents a key step of the reproduction process, and changes in sperm membrane proteins are influenced by proteolytic enzymes present in the epididymal fluid. The occurence of inhibitors in epididymis is very important for the regulation of the sperm membrane protein processing.
