The new acritarch genus and species Amphitheca isaacsonii gen. et sp. n. was described from pelitic layers of latest Silurian-earliest Devonian age in southern Peru. Specimens are characterized by large number of radial projections. Processes are heteromorphic, irregular – apical conical, tubular and thin bi- or trifurcate. Morphological features of this genus resemble fossil hypnozygotes of dinoflagellate cysts. Overall, 40 genera and 74 species of organic-walled microfossils were found in surface samples of dark grey silty shales and sandy micaceous claystones from the San Gabán and Ananea Formation (southern Peru).
