Highly intense ArF and KrF laser radiation-induced photolysis of gaseous dichloroethenes allows chemical vapour deposition of ultrafine amorphous Cl-substituted hydrogenated carbon soot which contains C(sp3)-H, C-Cl, C-O and C=O bonds and which evolve H2, HCl and Cl2 and and transform to graphite-like carbon upon heating to 700 o C.
