Diversity and distribution of Potamogeton species and hybrids in Italy are unsufficiently known. A taxonomic revision of broad-leaved species was elaborated on the basis of herbarium and field studies. A determination key was constructed to facilitate morphological identification. The distinguished species were provided with morphological descriptions and their distribution was characterized with maps and lists of voucher herbarium specimens.
