Studie přibližuje starost rodiny české spisovatelky Boženy Němcové, zejména aktivity manžela Josefa Němce, o její památku v prvních letech po její smrti. Staral se o to, aby byla památka Boženy Němcové připomenuta v tisku, aby byly slouženy mše, aby byl v pořádku hrob na Vyšehradě. „Veřejným“ se stalo místo posledního odpočinku Boženy Němcové v roce 1869, kdy byl na Vyšehradském hřbitově vztyčen její náhrobek zásluhou Amerického klubu dam.

This study enlightens the involvement of the family of the Czech writer Božena Němcová, in particular the activities of her husband Josef Němec, in keeping her memory alive in the first few years following her death. He made it his business to have Božena Němcová’s memory commemorated in print, to have masses said in her name, to keep her grave at Vyšehrad well maintained. In 1869 the place of Božena Němcová’s final rest became a „public place“ as her tombstone was erected at the Vyšehrad Cemetery thanks to the American Ladies‘ Club.
