The genes involved in early stages of myogenesis (MEF2B, GAS1), candidate genes for growth and meat performance traits (S1PR3, BMP2, GOLM1) and genes expected to be localized in QTL intervals for muscle and fat mass on SSC4 (ATF6, HSD17B7 and LMX1A) and SSC1 (PTPN3) were selected to search for polymorphism and mapping. The genomic amplicons of the Meishan and Pietrain breeds were comparatively sequenced and sequences including were deposited in the EMBL/GenBank database. The structure of 3´UTR and 3´ downstream of the MEF2B gene was analysed by primer-walking using BAC clone 687D12 from the porcine bacterial artificial chromosome library.
