The aim of this study was to determine the impact of two anorexinergic peptides, cholecystokinin (CCK) and cocaine and amphetamine regulated transcript (CART) peptide, on the activity of neurons located in the arcuate (ARC) and ventromedial (VMN) nuclei and hypocretin (Hcrt) synthesizing neurons located in the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA). After overnight starvation, male C57Bl/6 mice received in the morning saline (SAL), CCK (4 µg/kg, i.p.), CART peptide (0.1 µg/mice, i.c.v.) or CCK followed 5 minutes later by CART peptide. After 60 min, the presence of Fos or Fos-Hcrt immunostainings signalized the effect of treatments on the cell activity in ARC and VMN, as well as Hcrt cell activity in the LHA. The results indicate that CCK may modify the effect of CART peptide and thus substantially influence the activity of neurons in the hypothalamic structures involved in the food intake regulation.
