The article focuses on the problematic of temperature dependence of deactivation of native N-Methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDA) receptors in neuronal cultures and the temperature dependence of excitatory postsynaptic currents mediated by synaptic NMDA receptors in rat cortical slices. Our electrophysiology experiments found that both native as well as synaptic receptors exhibit significantly weaker temperature dependence compared to recombinant GluN1/GluN2B NMDA receptors. Synaptic NMDA receptors have characteristics of receptors with low desensitization (20%). Double exponential time course of NMDA receptor deactivation originates mainly from dissociation of agonist and desensitization
