Článek mapuje implulsy vedoucí ke koordionvané mezinárodní spolupráci v radiační ochraně a metrologii záření po první světové válce, kroky podniknuté na tomto poli v meziválečném období a obnovu spolupráce po druhé světové válce na kvalitativně nové úrovni reprezentované ustavením nové Mezinárodní komise pro radiologickou ochranu (International Commission on Radiological Protection, ICRP) v r. 1950. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována účasti Československa v této mezinárodní spolupráci a tuzemská reflexe přijatých mezinárodních doporučení radiační ochrany.

Impulses to coordinated international cooperation in the field of radiation protection and metrology of ionizing radiation after WWI are outlined. The first international bodies established and the first recommendations adopted in those fields in the inter-war period are described. The new approaches to radiation protection after WWII, as inboded to the first recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP, established in 1950) are presented. Particular attention is paid to the participation of Czech and Slovak professionals in the mentionned international cooperation and to the reflection of the international recommendations in our country.
