Speleothems from caves of Račiška pečina and Pečina v Borštu (SW Slovenia) were subjected both to thermal and alternating field demagnetization; received results from specimens belonging to the same sample of the same layer were identical. Unblocking temperatures of 540 to 560°C on average pointed to magnetite as the principal carrier of magnetization. Negative fold tests were obtained on dome-like stalagmites of different sizes and ages (Pleistocene, Pliocene) and magnetic polarity from both caves.
