In this article our custom-made laser scanning optical microscope (LSOM) for high-resolution light beam induced currents (LBIC)is introduced. We investigated the optical properties, e.g. light propagation and attenuation in thin films (a-Si:H and ZnO) of typical solar cell structure. Results are shown and discussed. We concluded that the ZnO acts as optical waveguide, while in a-Si:H we did not observe any light propagation propably due to the high optical scattering at the rough interface.
