Příspěvek se zabývá životními příběhy a jejich výzkumy v etnologii a historii. Autorka nejdříve definuje termín životní příběh a upozorňuje i na další možné termíny, které jsou používány v daných vědních disciplínách. Snaží se poukázat na charakteristické znaky tohoto pramene – ústnost, vznik na popud výzkumníka, a popisuje dopad těchto charakteristik na způsoby, jakými jsou životní příběhy používány v etnologii a historii, s tím, že je zdůrazněna interdisciplinárnost, která je studiu těchto pramenů vlastní. Pozornost je věnována výzkumu vyprávění a performance studies, které ovlivnily nahlížení na životní příběhy. Podle autorky se zájmy etnologie a historie velmi často prolínají, jak dokazují například výzkumy etnologa A. Lehmanna.

The paper deals with life stories and with their research in ethnology and history. The author at first defines the term life story and refers to other possible terms that are used in the relevant scientific disciplines. He endeavours to point out characteristic features of this source – oral tradition, emergence on the researcher´s instigation, and describes the impact of those features on the ways how the life stories are utilized in ethnology and history with an accent on interdisciplinarity that is inherent in the study of those sources. Attention is paid to the research of narratives and to performance studies which influenced the research on the life stories. The author means that concerns of ethnology and history often blend together, as proved e. g. by the researches of the ethnologist A. Lehmann.
