Recent studies concerning vegetation in the Gravettian period (OIS3) are in contradiction with more traditional view to the period as being so harsh that it could support only open vegetation of so-called "mammoth steppe". This evidence mostly concentrates to the eastern part of Central Europe and show important role of trees. Analogies to this can be recently studied in certain parts of southern Siberia.

Nejnovější studie o vegetaci v období gravettienu (OIS3) se často dostávají do rozporu s tradičnějšími pohledy na tuto problematiku, rekonstruujícími tzv. "mamutí step". Takové doklady se koncentrují zejména do východní části střední Evropy a ukazují významnou roli některých dřevin. Moderní analogie můžeme hledat zejména v pohořích jižní Sibiře.
