The aim of our study is to reveal molecular mechanisms of response to anti-cancer drugs at early time intervals to detect proteins that may be responsible for primary changes in the signalling networks and leading to irreversible anti-cancer processes. Leukaemic CEM cells were treated with various chemotherapeutic drugs. Evaluation of quantitative data from 2-D protein maps using multivariate statistical approach, principal component analysis, revealed that only about 2% of total variances represented differences that enabled grouping of drugs and their classification according to protein profiles. Drugs were clustered into groups independently of basic scheme of conventional chemotherapy agents indicating that there might be other unexplained mechanisms underlying the anti-cancer response and/or chemoresistance.
