Tato práce si klade otázku, který neolit představuje vlastně lineární keramika ve střední Evropě. Je zde sledováno, co se odehrávalo v různých oblastech za hranicemi budoucí lineární oikumeny v době, která předcházela vzniku lineární keramiky, v období předlineárního horizontu. Na Předním východě mu předcházelo dlouhé období polycentrického přechodu pozdněpaleolitických společenství k zemědělství a paralelně k pastevectví. V oblasti Anatolie jmenujeme tento přechod jako oblast vnitřní neolitizace. Zbývající území na evropském kontinentu, která byla neolitizována postupně nebo s určitými přestávkami, označujeme jako oblast vnější neolitizace. Neolit v centru Evropy nelze nyní chápat jako jednolitý soubor kulturních prvků, který by byl převzat nebo přenesen k nám z určité nebo vzdálenější oblasti jako celek.

This essay puts the question, which Neolithic actually represents the Linear pottery in Central Europe. It is observed here, what happened in the different regions beyond the borders of the future linear oicumene in the period preceding the birth of Linear pottery, the pre-linear horizon. In the Near East it was preceded by a long period of polycentric transition from the late paleolithic communities to agriculture and concurrently to pastoralism. In the Anatolian territory we call this transition the region of inner neolithisation. The remaining areas on the European continent, which had been neolithized gradually or with certain interludes, are called the region of outer neolithisation. The Neolithic in the centre of Europe now cannot be comprehended as a compact set of cultural elements having been taken over or transferred to us from a neighbouring or more distant area to the territory as an entity.
