Using results of detailed research of ecology of Erebia butterflies in the Sudetan Mts., we discuss the fates of relic high mountain species inhabiting small mountain ranges under the ongoing global climate change. We highlight that detailed understanding of individual species habitat requirements, plus knowledge of ecophysiological limit of their distrubution, is crucial for designing conservtion strategies.

Na příkladu výsledků dlouhodobého výzkumu ekologie motýlů rodu Erebia v sudetských pohořích diskutujeme osudy horských reliktů tváří v tvář probíhající globální změně klimatu. Zdůrazňujeme, že bez detailní znalosti stanovištních nároků a ekofysiologických limitů jednotlivých druhů nelze navrhnout strategii jejich ochrany.
