Kapitola obsahuje geografickou charakteristiku mikroregionu Orlicko, vymezeného územím Sdružení Orlicko. Jsou analyzovány přírodní předpoklady pro regionální rozvoj, osídlení v jeho historických souvislostech, aktuální vývoj počtu obyvatel na základě bilancí, struktura populace, otázky bydlení. Je charakterizována transformující se ekonomika podle jednotlivých sektorů. Orlicko je nepochybně periferním regionem, jehož sociální i ekonomická struktura byly po 2. světové válce hrubým způsobem narušeny. Pohraniční poloha vytvořila výraznou bariéru. Nicméně region je diferencován na problémové Králicko a standardní Žambersko.

The chapter contains geographical characteristics of the Orlice micro-region which is delimited by the territory of the Association of communes Orlicko. Natural conditions of development are characterized as well as the settlement in its historical development, present population development based on the population balancies, population structure, the question of dwelling. The economics under transformation is described according to individual branches. The Orlice region is a peripheral territory undoubtedly. Its social and economic structures were roughly disturbed after the World War II. The border postition created an expressive barrier. Nevertheless, the region is differentiated in more problematic Králíky part and a standard Žamberk part.
