Studie prověřuje proklamovanou absenci historických faktorů při vzniku Občanské demokratické strany (ODS). Poukazuje na skryté zapojení široce sdílených historických stereotypů při popularizaci ekonomické transformace a mnohem explicitnější napojení na české tradice a dějiny od politické krize v letech 1997-1998, vrcholící v 2000-2002 s jejich kladením do rozporu s orientací Evropské unie a Německa. Ve stranických výkladech „vyrovnání s komunistickou minulostí“ se nejednalo pouze o krátkodobé politické instrumentalizace, nýbrž o relativně konzistentní pojetí komunistické minulosti jako neorganické součásti českých dějin.

The article investigates the declared absence of historical factors in establishing the Civic Democratic Party (ODS). It points to the veiled use of widely shared historical stereotypes in the popularization of the economic transformation and the far more explicit links to the Czech tradition and history since the political crisis of 1997-1998, with a peak between 2000 and 2002, describing the Czech tradition in conflict with the orientation of the EU and Germany. The party’s interpretation of "coming to terms with the Communist past" involved not only short-term political instrumentalization, but rather a relatively consistent conception of the Communist past as an alien element in Czech history.
